What our client wanted

ScottishPower wanted to outsource its print requirements, including transactional print, their in-house print facility, and their sales and marketing collateral, in order to achieve a significant reduction in expenditure. During the transition phase of the contract, ScottishPower underwent a rebranding exercise, which presented additional print challenges. The company was also conscious of the need to increase postal discounts. Our relationship with the client dates back to 2008, and we have recently agreed a five-year contract extension to continue delivering our expert communication solutions.


What we gave them

We implemented an onsite client team and created production teams across three of our own UK sites. The team built, tested and implemented 17 different applications over an eight-month period for cheque printing, letters, bills and statements, and introduced file reconciliation, improved management information and postal optimisation to maximise the mailsort discounts. We also worked with our client’s sales and marketing team to streamline their ordering process for all inserts and booklets, which reduced lead times and gave greater stock and version control. We have since moved their work onto a white paper solution and consolidated the 17 different applications into five, greatly improving mailsort discounts and reducing the liability on excess stock.

What was the impact

We saved our client £500k in the first year of the contract. We met the client’s high expectations for the migration of its in-house print and mail function, insert procurement and delivery process, as well as the subsequent rebranding project. By seamlessly implementing and developing these projects over the duration of the contract, we have ensured that service levels remained unaffected and deadlines achieved. The relationship continues to go from strength to strength, and our global scale and leverage has delivered significant cost savings for our client, with better management information and future-proofed capabilities.
