Overview

The world is facing rapid environmental and societal change, and it is vital that we develop business strategies that embrace the growth potential this will bring.

Sustainability is no longer merely “nice to have”, useful only for reducing energy or waste; sound sustainability governance is crucial to the growth of our business.

Paragon Customer Communications, while based in the UK, is part of a global business with global impacts. We have a responsibility not just to build a sustainable business, but to contribute to a sustainable economy and planet.

Carbon Net Zero Plan

We are committed to supporting our clients’ ambitions and the UK Government’s targets by achieving Carbon Net Zero by 2050. Our Carbon Net Zer Plan sets out short and long-term targets on how we will achieve this.  Click here to view the Paragon Carbon Net Zero Plan

How we help clients to deliver sustainably

Paragon Customer Communications is the UK’s largest direct mail producer and established expert in transactional and regulatory communications. We provide clients with a complete range of solutions across the whole communications process. We streamline the design and delivery of marketing, transactional and regulatory communications through innovative print, mail and digital technologies. This allows our clients to deliver meaningful communications while minimising their sustainability footprint.

Lifecycle Sustainability Footprint

PCC is dedicated to assessing and improving the sustainability footprint throughout the lifecycle of our products and services. This touches every part of our business from sound due diligence in our supply chain, ethical business practices, staff satisfaction and retention, efficient production and facilities management and effective relationships with our stakeholders.

CO2 Emissions and Raw Materials

PCC reports on the CO2 emissions as far as possible across the lifecycle of our products and services. Developing and expanding the scope of our CO2 emissions measurements is an important part of assessing the lifecycle sustainability footprint of our products and services.

With around 80% of the CO2 emissions of PCC’s products and services originating from production of raw materials and postal delivery, it is important that we engage with our supply chain to minimise the lifecycle impact.

PCC’s largest raw material is paper. We use around 43,000 tonnes of it a year.

We only buy paper from suppliers who hold FSC ® (licence number C007810) and PEFC ™ certification so we can be sure the paper we purchase originates from sustainably managed resources

Almost 60% of PCC’s measured CO2 emissions, and therefore the footprint of our products and services, is a result of production and delivery of paper. We have a privileged relationship with our paper supply chain partners and a responsibility to help drive down CO2 emissions across the lifecycle of our products and services.

Postal Delivery

We are responsible for releasing approximately 840 million items into the postage delivery system every year. Each UK households will receive an item produced by PCC every week.

For the first time we have included Royal Mail delivery in our PCC carbon footprint. With around 30% of CO2 emissions attributable to the postage delivery this forms the second largest source of CO2 emissions for our products and services.

The vast majority of items will pass through Royal Mail during the delivery process, either directly or indirectly through Down Stream Access providers. Royal Mail has reduced their CO2 emissions by 25% against 2004 – 05 base line.
